All Indo Radio’s (AIR) Vividh Bharti service will now be available on the FM platform in Delhi. The services will cover a minimum radius of 60 km of the National Capital region. Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and I&B, Arun Jaitley inaugurated the Vividh Bharti FM service at the AIR, New Broadcasting House in Delhi on April 14, 2015.
While Vividh Bharti service was available across most parts of the country on FM mode, in the four metros, it was being transmitted only on MW (Medium Wave) till recently.
Technological advancement and availability on FM mode will make Vividh Bharti and other channels of AIR available on mobile phones, car stereos and the Internet.
The listeners of Vividh Bharti service in Delhi were hitherto being beamed through MW only. A dedicated 10 KW transmitter has been installed for the Vividh Bharti Service Delhi.
Reiterating the historical role played by Vividh Bharti channel in the broadcast of entertainment programmes, Jaitley said that the different programmes had left a deep imprint on the minds of the listeners since it began in 1957. While the programming had witnessed qualitative improvement, the extension of this platform from New Delhi on the FM stream would further enhance the quality of transmission and sound reception.
Jaitley recalled some of the prominent programmes that had been broadcast since the last several decades. The Minister mentioned ‘Bhule Bisre Geet’, ‘Hawa Mahal’, ‘Jaimala’ for the Army personnel, ‘Sangeet Sarita’ and ‘Youth Express.’ All these programmes have addressed the varied audiences’ needs successfully across the country.
Vividh Bharti on FM will be available in Delhi on 100.1 MHz. This is in addition to its availability on MW 1368 kHz. Two other existing FM services of AIR are FM Gold and FM Rainbow. AIR also has its local radio station network in FM mode.
